Baugit: natural leather products

"Roaida is producing a variety of natural leather products decorated with inscriptions are inspired by the ancient history of Lattakia"

Ancient Syrian lived in the mountain. They used to make their clothes from the products of their generous environment. Since mountains enjoy a cold climate, there emerged a need for them to get warm. For that, men hunted animals and women sew its leather into garments and warming clothes. Day by Day women left handicrafts for cultivation.

Roaida is young lady decided to go back to nature and revive her parents’ legacy and produce authentic accessories from artistically  and historically decorated natural leather.

Early support from the Village Business incubator in the training and business counseling have helped her to save a lot of time and made the process of innovation more productive and efficient.

Supporting by the VBI Staff,  she received primary training to deal with raw leather and design it.  Moreover, she established linkages with leather suppliers from Aleppo  where she can secure the raw leather.  Under the training she produced prototypes of bags, purse, and wallets which sold in the trade fairs facilitated by the VBI. The primary training was followed by Product Development Training , thorough it, Roaida developed her designs and enlarged the range of the collection she produces.

She named her products “Baugit”, this came from ancient legend  circulated in the villages from generation to another. The designs are inspired from the legends, and inscriptions taken from archeological findings in Lattakia, therefore,  these products are highly appreciated by the Syrian and foreign. It is the only business in Lattakia producing such kind of products, and one among few in Syria.

Roaida depends more on her innovation to keep up her venture, and very ambitious to have a chance to acquaint the products of other countries, and exchange experiences with the producers around the world.
