- 'Turath' Heritage & Tradition

The «manadil harir», silk scarf, is a famous traditional costume of the
coastal area of Syria: a finely embroidered piece of art. Rural women
used to take care of the whole production cycle from silk warm breeding
to embroidery. Indeed this was a very time consuming and intensive craft
requiring lots of skills and expertise, hence its progressive abandon by
rural communities.
This explains why the «manadil harir» are nowadays so rare to find. Ms.
Ghada Shanata, a dynamic Lady and mother of two, has decided to revive
this craft in the Village of Ain al Tineh, by adapting the embroidered
silk laces to modern and contemporary fashion wear. Encouraged by the
Village Business Incubator, Ghada has benefited from the advice of
international fashion designers to create her collection including
blouses, jackets and dresses.
After having attended the managerial training courses led by the VIllage
Business Incubator, Ghada has embarked on an intensive technical
training at the Agriculture Directorate in Lattakia to learn the silk
warm breeding technique. She also strenghtened her embroidery skills
through a full immersion training with the rural ladies who still work
on this craft.
Driven by her determination and enthusiasm, Ghada managed to establish «Turath»,
heritage. «Turath» brings you a variety of sophisticated fashion wear
combining Ghada's romantic and elegant style with the simplicity of a
modern cut and the quality of the fabrics typical of Syria.
